Case study 2
Cheryl is a 20-year-old student. She bought some loperamide last month, an effective treatment to relieve diarrhoea. She has come to ask for your advice as her symptoms have got worse
|
Consider the questions you would need to ask Cheryl and what treatment you would recommend.
Case study 2 - Answer
Cheryl has been suffering from diarrhoea for over a month. It turns out that she has also noticed
blood and mucus in her stools and is experiencing recurrent abdominal pain. These are clear ‘red flag’ symptoms that would suggest she could be suffering from ulcerative colitis. Cheryl
should be advised to see her GP for further investigation.
